New Moon in Capricorn and New Years Eve Ritual

Why dual purpose?
The Capricorn new moon is always a powerful time for my natal chart, in that it touches near my stellium points. BUT I typically enjoy it as well because of the fact that it falls near the calendar new year as well. I thought I would create a combo ebook that shares both information for the Capricorn new moon, and a chance to reflect and plan for next year for both new and old email subscribers.
So, let's talk about the Capricorn new moon. The new moon in any sign kicks off a fully year-long cycle, as well as a smaller 6-month cycle. The first six months, from the new moon, to the full moon, are all about what you're building and working towards. Each time the moon enters the sign from the span of the new to the full moon in that same sign, you have a chance to reflect on the visions you hold and the goals you've created related to its sign.
With this moon being in the sign of Capricorn, I especially wanted to create this ebook, as Capricorn is a sign that is concerned with creating in a way that focuses on longevity and sacrifice than most other signs (except maybe Aquarius as it is also Saturn ruled). As you approach this new moon, I hope you'll keep your eye focused on both the long game and your larger visions.

Lunar Notes
There is some beautiful energy in this chart. I absolutely love that we have Jupiter finally in Pisces with this new moon. While it is a wide-sextile, it is still one nonetheless that adds uplifting and expansive energy to this chart. This tells me that the benefits of the chart, and the maximization of the energy coming in over the course of the next year, will be one that requires effort on our parts in order to reap the maximum gain.
Aside from the benefit of the wide sextile, there is a copresence that will also affect us. There is a wide conjunction with Venus retrograde to this moon, and with Venus retrograde, you may find that much of what pushes you forward is your own inner knowing and stability. As you approach changes this coming year related to the house that holds Capricorn, and your long-term goals, you'll want to do your best to remain grounded and to listen to that inner strength and knowing.
Everything below this heading is additional information for members of The Celestial Realm
Aside from what I’ve mentioned above/in the newsletter, this new moon is taking place in the second decan of Capricorn. In this decan, we’re adding in the rulership of Mars. The combination of the new moon in this sign will help to lift our energy and propel us forward into the new year. I’m going to add some of this Mars energy to the post-NYE ritual spellwork. Like the exalted Mars, this decan is all about aiming high and being willing to put in the long-term game. Having the new moon occur here further encourages us to lean into our highest aspirations, and to allow ourselves to dream of all we deserve.
Aside from this, with Vega smack dab in the center of this decan, we also have an artistic impulse and a spirit-worker energy lending itself to the new moon’s energy. This is the prime time to consider your creative practice and to think of all that you are creating in this world, and all the ways you engage with the beauty of the world as well. Much like the long-game energy of an exalted Mars, the tarot card associated with this decan is that of the apprentice— or the three of pentacles. As you move into the new moon, what is the thing you are focusing your energy on? What are you willing to become an apprentice of in this coming year? An apprentice isn’t about quick gain, it’s about solid commitment for the sake of becoming a master through patience, focus, and dedication.

The House Details for the Journaling Prompts
First: This is the house of the self and your needs. It can deal with identity and how you express it. It is also related to being "seen."
Second: This is the house of money and values. Transits through this house deal with resources you alone control, and how you extend your identity outside of the self into the space around you.
Third: This house deals with community and communications on a mundane level, along with topics of daily and Earth-based rituals on a spiritual level.
Fourth: This house includes topics of family, family of origin, and your roots and ancestors. You may find that transits through this house point to things happening in the physical home as well.
Fifth: This is a house related to how you exert your identity in the world through the ways you add to it, and thus is often talked about as the house of "pleasure" covering topics of sex, creativity, and children.
Sixth: This is the house of the body and illness, and can also be connected to employment or the ways that you serve the world around you.
Seventh: This house deals with the "other" and how you connect to the people around you. It can cover serious romantic relationships, as well as friendships, and business partnerships.
Eight: This house is similar to the 2nd house but deals with other people's resources. So this could be related to debt, collaboration, and exchanging of resources.
Ninth: This is a house related to broadening the mind including through larger divinatory practices such as astrology, religion, travel, publishing, and higher education.
Tenth: This is the house of your reputation and career. Not so much the jobs you do but the larger goal you have in your life whether it brings in the most income or not.
Eleventh: This is the house of larger communities, and hopes and dreams.
Twelfth: The house of the unconscious and imprisonment. Transits here may bring up unhealed issues, or may help you tune into your spirituality.
Journaling Prompts - 2021 Review
Before we dive into the New Year's Eve special, I want us to take a moment to review 2021: both some of the great things and some of the not-so-great things. I know there are some obvious not-great things so instead of focusing on what is outside of our control, I want us to approach this exercise with a focus on what is IN our control and what we can change and learn from as we move forward.
I've provided some journaling prompts, and a tarot spread to help you through this process.
Where did you purposefully focus the bulk of your energy this year? (Ex: business, romance, relationship building, self-care, etc) and as you look back, how do you feel about that prioritization?
What are three goals you had at the start of 2021 that you were able to make major progress in or complete? Big, small, and everything in between work.
Look at the house that holds Capricorn in your chart. If you need a lil help look to the previous page. What did you explore this last year in this house that just came to a full close?
What did you notice about the months that Jupiter was briefly in Pisces? While this transit won't be the same, there will be some similarities.
Tarot Spread

What inner transformation did I experience in 2021?
What archetype or key energy helped me remain most grounded this year?
What energy should I most embrace as I move forward this year?
What larger theme will I be exploring in 2022?

The Ritual
💫 I recommend doing some of these steps on the 30th or 31st but you are also welcome to do them after the first. I would suggest following the steps in this order as this is how it was designed. Steps 1-3 can and should be done on the 30th or 31st. Steps 4 and 5 should be done on the 31st or 1st. Step 5 requires a new pair of underwear 😊
1️⃣ Clear
I often find that many people seek to consistently call in and manifest without equally prioritizing releasing. While I do think there are magical ways to clear, and we will touch on one in the next page, there are equally magical mundane ways of clearing and making space to receive.
What I'd like for you to do, is consider what you are most hoping to call IN this next year. Are you hoping to build friendships? Relationships? Bring in more money? Hold that image in your head.
Once you have a clear idea, I want you to look around your home and consider what is taking up both physical and visible space, and what is taking up mental and invisible space. For those looking to develop a relationship, I strongly encourage you to make room in your closet. For those who are looking to bring in more money, consider the long-wanted purchases you would make, and clear space in your home for these items.
The reason we do this is both as a signal to the universe, and as a signal to ourselves. It's important to actually have the possibility for what you want in your life. If you run a business or wish to go back to school, begin by cutting out a block in your schedule.
The more you make space, the more you will send out the vibes that you're ready to receive.
Clear Continued (optional additional step)
This is totally optional, but one traditional thing to do just before the new year, is to take a coconut and roll it with your foot from the back of the house to the front of your house. If you use a mobility device, you can double down and roll with it with a broom (another technique and tip), or adjust to your needs.
Once you roll this coconut through the entire house, starting at the back of the house and going all the way to the front door, you'll take the coconut outside. Once you're outside, you toss the coconut up into the air as high as you can and let it fall and break on the ground.
Be mindful of neighbors of course because the boom can be kinda scary or triggering for some.
This is totally an optional additional fun activity that I've done on and off throughout New Years Eve.
2️⃣ Cleansing Bath
DO THIS BEFORE NEW YEARS EVE IF POSSIBLE. If you do not have a bathtub, you can make this mixture and pour it over your head after a traditional shower.
You will need: 1-3 Tbl or bags of chamomile 3 limes Florida water or white rum (if you have it) A white candle
Put the pot on the stove and add 8 cups of water. Light a candle as you begin to prepare your bath. Add slices of 3 limes. Add the chamomile. Mix it with your hands, focusing on cleansing your body of any dense and heavy energy you may be carrying from the year prior. Let the mixture simmer for 21 minutes. Let the water cool. Cool mixture is better for deep cleansing but may not work for everyone's body. Strain.
Add to your bath. Add a splash of Florida water or white rum. Because of the nature of this being a very cleansing bath you can sit in the tub for 20 minutes or you can do a cold rinse down with it. To do this you would take a regular shower, then turn the water off. You would slowly pour the mixture over your body and rub the water into your scalp and body. Air dry if possible. Avoid wearing dark colors after and wear white if possible to bed.
If you want to add extra potency you can take a standard shower, scrub your skin with salt, and then do the rinse.
4️⃣ Sweetening Bath
This can be done after the beginning of the new year or on the eve of the new year. Def do this after your cleansing bath.
You will need: 1 cup of goat milk or coconut milk. A drizzle of honey A collection of white flowers (roses are ideal) Gardenia water or white rum (if you have it) A white candle
Put the pot on the stove and add 4 cups of water with the milk. Light a candle as you begin to prepare your bath. KEEP THE HEAT VERY LOW. Add a drizzle of honey and the white flowers. Mix it with your hands, focusing on calling in the beautiful energy you most need. Let the mixture simmer for 21 minutes. Let it cool to the point of not burning you.
Add to your bath. Add a splash of white rum or gardenia water. Because of the nature of this being a sweetening bath with both milk and honey, you may wish to rinse off the mixture after sitting in the bath for 20 min. If you can tolerate it, it is better to not rinse it off. Air dry if possible. Avoid wearing dark colors after and wear white if possible to bed.
5️⃣ New Underwear
The final recommendation I have for you this year (unless you're in the Celestial Realm, then there's a bonus there too) is the tradition of the new underwear.
I don't know all the cultures that practice this but it is very relevant in Mexican culture. We often purchase a new pair of panties to wear in the new year (I traditionally wear it on New Year's Eve). Most folks choose red to call in love, and others choose yellow to call in finances and promotions. Choose whichever color most calls to you.
Last year I chose to wear royal blue as I felt it was calling in a good deal of confidence and a feeling of being deserving of what I most desired.
The key is buying a new pair!!!
The Spellwork
💫 This isn’t fully astro focused spellwork, but I wanted to offer some New Year’s Eve Magic that considered the energy of the new moon. I encourage you to do this spellwork either on New Years Eve or just after the new moon which falls on January 2nd at 10:36am PST (ish).
What is required
A mortar and pestle or something to grind your herbs/spices
A novena candle (I like the multi-color ones for this working but white is also good)
A magical oil - I love Van Van or road opener for this time of year
Dried bay leaves
1 Star Anise (crushed)
Cinnamon chips or dust (go light if it is powder)
Chamomile
Sunflower petals or 3-5 sunflower seeds (also crushed)
Bone or item of an animal ally if you so choose.
1️⃣ To begin, you are going to want to cleanse your novena candle. Check out the blog post on dressing a novena candle if you need a review. I would encourage Florida water or Gardenia water but you can also cleanse with smoke or a cigar.
2️⃣. Poke 3 or 5 holes with a screwdriver or skewer in the candle. I like 5 in the shape of 5 star points or 3 in the shape of a triangle.
3️⃣. Take some time to crush the herbs and mix them together. I find a mortar and pestle to be the most useful but use what you have on hand.
4️⃣. Once you have the mix prepared, begin to create your protective boundary and call in your spirit team or spirit allies. Focus on channeling in energy from the elements around you. Once you feel the energy of the room and the area lift, you are ready to move forward.
5️⃣ Dress your candle with 3 or 5 drops of magical oil, and with a sprinkling of the herbs. DO NOT OVERLOAD IT. More herbs does not equate to more magic.
6️⃣. Say your prayer, ask for your semi-specific petitions, and light the candle. Let it burn to completion whenever possible without having a fire hazard. If you must put out and re-light, suffocate the flame and then relight as soon as possible.
